Made you look, didn’t I? Turns out fried chicken and waffles is a grand southern soul food tradition. According to Wikipedia, it’s typically served as fried chicken, served on a waffle or two, and the whole concoction topped with syrup. The Pennsylvania Dutch sometimes serve it covered in gravy, believe it or not!
My first exposure to this food (on TV at least) was on a recent episode of the Travel Channel’s Man v. Food show, where host Adam Richman visited an outpost of Gladys Knight and Ron Winans’ Chicken & Waffles chain and tried this unique dish.
My first exposure, in person, will be at The Adelphia, Tuesday night (Oct. 12), where The Galley has added special Fried Chicken and Waffles plate, as well as a more traditional Fried Chicken dinner, to the menu in honor of Southern Culture on the Skids playing the Adelphia!

I remember my grandma serving ham and gravy on a waffle when I was about 12 years old. I thought it was a German thing. Any guesses?
That’s a good question… I knew the origins for fried chicken and waffles
came from soul food, but there are mentions of a similar dish to what you’re
talking about that came from the Pennsylvania Dutch, a waffle with plain
chicken on top, with gravy!
