Jazz great Bob Thompson recently sat with Todd Burge for a special Songwriter Night Podcast interview in the balcony of The Adelphia Music Hall at The Galley.
Mr. Thompson, known the world over for his annual “Joy to the World” holiday concerts produced by West Virginia Public Radio and syndicated to National Public Radio, shares his thoughts on songwriting, where he gets his ideas for songs, melodies, and how he creates them from an emotional spark, memory, or idea, through to a finished song. He talks about the creative process he and his band mates went through for their latest recording, Smile. He shares two complete songs with Todd during the interview; “The Queen Street Blues” and “This Is My Love Song for You (Wedding Song)”.
Bob Thompson, along with his band, Bob Thompson Unit, will be playing a special Holiday Show with Dinner at The Adelphia Music Hall on Thursday, Dec. 2. This special intimate concert will feature holiday jazz favorites from Bob Thompson Unit, accompanying an extraordinary 8-course meal, representing a culinary journey around the world (read more here). We hope you’ll join us for this special live music and dining experience. What better way to kick off the holiday season with a night to remember such as this?
